elementary students placing new soil around a tree

Joined by local government officials and community agencies, including Village of Plain City Mayor, Jody Carney, Plain City Elementary first grade students celebrated Arbor Day (April 26, 2024) with a tree planting ceremony.

Although first grade students attended the celebration ceremony, the entire building was able to participate in craft and coloring activities themed around Arbor Day. Kindergarten through second grade students participated in a coloring contest, while third and fourth grade students were allowed to create their own art to celebrate the holiday.

Grand prize winners from each grade were recognized at the tree planting ceremony, while each classroom winner was invited to an ice cream social near the end of the school day on April 26.

First grade students were able to learn from Mayor Carney about the village's Tree City USA designation and assisted with the planting of a new tree on-site by shoveling in new soil.
