Monroe Elementary giving presentation to BOE

This week, Monroe Elementary had the pleasure of hosting the April Board Meeting. During the meeting, Ms. Betha Maust and Mrs. Kelly Newman shared insights into an instructional strategy that is showing great promise for our English Learner (EL) students: Sheltered Instruction.

This approach is currently being implemented through a co-teaching model, with Mrs. Newman and Ms. Maust collaboratively teaching Amplify to a group of 3rd-grade students. Early data indicates that our EL students are making meaningful academic growth as a result of this method.

Given the positive outcomes, our goal for the upcoming school year is to expand the use of Sheltered Instruction across more classrooms to continue supporting and accelerating the success of our EL students.
