The Jonathan Alder Board of Education held its monthly regular meeting on Monday, December 9, at Canaan Middle School. After Superintendent Dr. James Miller opened with district updates, high school fall athletes were recognized for achieving all-state performances and/or awards for 2024. Additionally, athletic director, Mr. Scott Reule, gave a presentation on potential updates to the facility near the gymnasium.
Mr. Michael Williamson of the Marysville Journal Tribune was also recognized to OSBA's Media Honor Roll for 2024. Williamson received the award for his reporting of the district in the media.
Canaan Middle School students then presented their group-based projects on new designs and materials for the Courtyard. Students displayed blueprints, 3D models and a slideshow presentation with potential equipment for the area.
Additionally, there were technical corrections made to Board policies, as well as Board approvals for varying extracurricular trips scheduled for HS students.
The meeting ended with a lengthy discussion on Master Facility Planning options . Through four meetings, the Community Advisory Team, consisting of 60+ staff and community members narrowed down future facility planning options to two that were recommended to the Board. The Board then approved a dollar amount of $70,622,500 to proceed with either plan through a future Bond Levy, both of which have the same grade-band conception of K-3 for elementary, 4-5 for intermediate elementary, 6-8 for middle school/junior high, and 9-12 for high school. Details regarding the final plans can be found on ElevateAlder.com.
