JAHS Cheer with trophy

The Jonathan Alder High School cheerleading team captured its third state title at the 33rd annual OASSA State Cheer Championships on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The 2024-25 Pioneers kicked off their competitive season with a Central Buckeye Conference championship in the fall. They then secured their 11th trip to the state championships through district and regional competitions. This marks Alder’s third consecutive state qualification and its ninth appearance in the past 11 years.

Jonathan Alder previously claimed state titles in 2006 and 2009, both in the Division III Non-Mount/Non-Building category. This year, the Pioneers reclaimed the championship in the same division, adding to the program legacy. The program also earned a runner-up finish in the DIII Non-Mount category in 2016.

According to OASSA, since the division restructuring in 2004, Alder’s three state titles now tie them with Indian Valley for the second most all-time in DIII Non-Mount. St. Clairsville holds the record with four championships.
