School meals have received a healthy makeover! The Jonathan Alder Local School District participates in both the National School Lunch and the National School Breakfast Programs. These programs require the district to meet strict federal nutrition standards. These standards, which are referred to as "the meal pattern", require the District to offer students the right balance of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and low-fat or fat-free milk with every meal. Click the link on the right learn more about these standards.
Did you know that snacks sold during the school day must also adhere to strict federal guidelines? The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 required the U.S. Department of Agriculture to create nutrition standards for foods and beverages sold in competition to reimbursable (full) meals. You can read more about the "Smart Snacks in School" guidelines by clicking on the link on the right.
